We are so proud of the success our Peeps have had from Brown’s Boot Camp through their hard work and dedication. Here are a few progress pics and stories to match…

Denny Napier

To look at me now you may not see a lifetime issue with being overweight.  In 1983 as a high school senior, I wrestled at the 112 lb. weight class and weighed about 135 lbs. in the off season.  In 1993, I took a physical for a new job and when the doctor got to my weight, which was at that point 165 lbs.  I told him that I wanted to lose about 10-15 pounds to which he laughed out loud and advised, “No, you need to loose 30-35 pounds because you are borderline OBESE.”  I discounted his advise (as did many around me) as being over zealous and claimed the “standard charts” that were used were not realistic for most people.  How could it be that I was suppose to still weigh what I did in high school?
In 2003, I coached wrestling at one of our junior high schools and weighed 185 lbs.  I spent 10 or more years at that weight and  eventually got to a high of 197 lbs.  During this time in my life I usually spent 3 or more nights a week sleeping in the recliner chair due to acid reflux that was starting to affect my health.  I was on two medicines to try and control my cholesterol levels, an anti-depressant, and thyroid medication and ate Tums like they were candy.
About a year ago I joined the “Beachbody” online program as my daughter Kelly was a new coach for them.  With her help I began watching my nutrition and “learned” not only what foods to eat, but also how much my body “needed” to survive.  I lost about 20 pounds over 4-5 months with the program, but never got ahold of the exercise part.  I knew that I needed to add exercise to continue to progress in my health journey.  BBC filled that need with an opportunity.
I now had a scheduled time and place to exercise, but trust me when I say if that is all that BBC gave me I wouldn’t still be here today!  My coaches, my team (Tue, Thur, Sun)  and the entirety of BBC campers are a constant source of support and motivation for me.  I joined on a three month promo which gave me the time to build a relationship with my peeps, realize results, and get a good mental grasp on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.  I have just reached my goal weight of, believe it or not, 136 lbs.  I guess the doctor was right in 1993?
In addition to BBC, I have participated in BBCFE program for the past two months and there is still more!  Randy also offers Personal Training and Life Coaching.   Mind – Body – Spirit    This is how we roll at Brown’s Boot Camp.
Want Some?  Get Some.  I did!
P.S.
So on the first leg of my flight home, the TSA agent took me and my drivers license to a second agent to verify the person in front of them was the same as the one in the photo.  This was 2014 and the 180 was an old number that I had just kept on there as I renewed it.  This photo was at a time when I was 190+lbs.

I got a new license today and corrected my weight to 136. I got a temporary paper copy but the pictures are not very good

Christian Grijalva

My name is Christian Grijalva and I started boot camp in March of 2015. At the time I was weighing over 260 pounds at a height of 5’9″. To say I was out of shape would be an understatement. I could hardly tie my shoes without needing to take a breath. I knew that I had to make a change otherwise I would be truly miserable for the rest of my life. I knew that in order to make that change I would need something more than just an exercise program. Brown’s Boot Camp has been completely life changing for me and it is absolutely more than just an exercise program. It helped me to completely change my lifestyle and mentality. The people I have met at Brown’s Boot Camp are what makes it so great and it’s what made me look forward to going to every workout. When I started it was extremely hard for me, I was embarrassed and could hardly run ten feet but it was my team and coach that made me want to keep coming back. I always told myself that in the future I would be so thankful that I remained consistent in order to motivate me.. The coaching is phenomenal, they want to see you succeed and improve and will keep you accountable for every Boot Camp session. They offered fantastic support and continued to encourage and push me my entire time through. As I continued to stay consistent, I continued to see results and not only a change in my body but also in my mind. My attitude towards life improved and I became overall much happier. My favorite part about Brown’s Boot Camp is the team aspect and how everyone works together to make sure we are all giving our best and motivating one another to succeed and push ourselves. I know for a fact without Brown’s Boot Camp I could not be where I am at in my life today. So ask yourself like I asked myself: if not now, when? Don’t make excuses and take a step out of your comfort zone. You will thank yourself later.

Never, ever in my life would I think that I would have a bumper sticker on my car. Especially one that promotes exercise. When I first tried Brown’s Boot Camp, I didn’t think I’d make it past month one because, let’s be perfectly honest, I have never really worked out in my entire life. There was always excuses like I don’t have time, too hard, too tired, etc. Well I gave it a try and it’s been 8 months now and I love it! I’ve been challenged in so many ways both mentally and physically. But it has only made me stronger and I have learned so much about myself and what I am capable of if I put my mind to it. I also have an amazing team of people who hold me accountable and cheer me on to keep going. I am so happy with my journey with Brown’s Boot Camp. If I can do it, so can you.

Brown’s Boot Camp has been a game changer for me! I started with BBC a year and a half ago and so many things in my life have changed for the better because of this program. I came into the program weighing 148 lbs and am now 129 lbs. But it wasn’t the weight loss that I am most happy with. It’s the people and how they have grown me. I am happy to be with my team 3 times a week, connecting, struggling, and caring with them. This program attracts amazing people. It is a tough workout and it takes commitment but I have never been more excited about doing something that is good for myself than I am with BBC. I have more energy, I never get bored with the ever changing routines, and I am happier!
The coaches are AMAZING individuals that hold you accountable for giving 100%. This is not a gym where they expect you not to come. This is a challenging, exciting place to come and connect with other people trying to better themselves.
Not everyone stays and that’s fine because those of us that do are pretty special!
THANK YOU Browns Boot Camp for all that you continue to give me!

Marie Soliz

My name is Marie Soliz I started Brown’s Boot Camp in March of 2016. I weighed 150lbs, right now I’m at 133lbs. I remember thinking maybe this program can help me start my fitness journey! I knew I wanted to change my lifestyle, I was already working out at home and I had set goals for myself. Those goals seemed so far away before I joined BBC. My mind was also in a bad place, a negative place before I joined BBC. I was so nervous when I showed up at my camp, but the team and my coach welcomed me. It was so hard, I never thought about quitting but I did say to myself that this is  “crazy!” That’s when I realized “I was crazy” and I love it! This program is SO MUCH MORE then working out. It healed me from the inside out. The broken Marie with the messed up mind saw the world differently and saw herself differently. It feels so good to be “FREE” that you want to share it with everyone. That’s what BBC is about!

Brenda O’Connor

For the last 15 to 20 years I didn’t feel “right” with myself physically because I was overweight. I knew I needed to do something about this issue, but I didn’t know what exercises to do, how exactly to balance healthy eating and I had no discipline or plan. Needless to say I continued down an unhealthy path for a very long time.

I watched other people that I know transform themselves physically in a program called Brown’s Boot Camp (BBC). I inquired with a couple of my friends about the program, and it sounded intriguing, but I always had many excuses of why I couldn’t do it!!! It’s too early, I don’t want to spend money on that, it will be too hard, I will embarrass myself, the list continued. It wasn’t until I was at a doctor’s visit that I came face to face with my reality. Upon stepping on the scale, I saw a number that shocked me. It was in that moment, I made up my mind to do something to change and improve my life.  The first step on this journey was to join BBC!

On May 30th, 2016 I attended my first boot camp class. Stepping on the scale and being measured in front of other people was terrifying. We performed timed sit ups, pushups, and a mile run. As we began to run the mile, I tripped and fell in the road scraping up both hands and knees.  Hurt, a little bloody, and very embarrassed, I got up, brushed myself off and finished the run.  Since that time over the last 10 months I have grown stronger both physically and mentally, and have NEVER once regretted attending a class, I always feel better after! Currently, I have lost 42 pounds by attending BBC classes and following their flexible eating plan.

The one area that has increased is my mental awareness managing daily life. I am dedicated and committed to the program and to myself by demonstrating more self-control with the ongoing desire to continually improve all aspects of my life. I expected to improve physically in a fitness program, but did not realize the mental toughness and focus it takes to persevere and truly make lifestyle that will stand the test of time.  I had gotten to the place I was by making unhealthy choices and being unaware of the consequences.

I am now learning how to take control and hold myself accountable for my decisions/actions and the importance of self-coaching in order to let the “new Brenda” continue to emerge. Another key aspect I didn’t anticipate is how important the TEAM is!!!!! I would NEVER be where I am without my coaches and my team. We hold each other accountable, love each other, work out together, cry together and make each other sooooo much stronger!!!!

I am ever grateful to those who encouraged me to begin this path, I am so excited to continue this journey and continue to grow (not on the scale) in a new lifestyle that will continue to challenge me to become the best that I can be!!!!!

Sara Himes

My name is Sara and I am 40 years old. I used to describe myself as a stay at home mom of two boys and wife of a successful and busy husband. A daughter, a sister, a friend. I was always busy taking care of everyone else in my life but had devoted little attention to myself. I’d never been on a diet. I had considered myself fairly healthy. I had run a half marathon recently and thought I ate things that were healthy and low fat.
The facts were that I actually had no idea how nutrition and exercise worked together. I didn’t know anything about Macro Nutrition. Running and running and running was getting me nowhere.
I joined Brown’s Boot Camp because I watched my neighbor stick with the program for years. She seemed happy, very healthy, and strong. I have always been fairly athletic, but lacked the motivation to go workout on my own. I was ready to find myself. Be who I truly was meant to be.
The coaches and team members at Brown’s Boot Camp held me accountable right away. I showed up at every class. I worked hard. I pushed my limits and was the best team member I could be. Not only did the weight start coming off, but my self confidence came back. I added BBCFE (nutrition coaching) to my routine. I was proud to put on my clothes. I was excited to be able to do a real pushup. I could run a mile faster than I ever have before. I noticed that the motivational readings Coach Randy provided at every class really hit home for me.
So here I am, one year later. I can now say my name is Sara and I am 40 years old. I like coffee, reading, traveling, exercising, and spending time with family and friends. I am strong. I have self confidence and energy to keep up with my kids and busy lifestyle. I know that the right nutrition fuels my body to be this person. I am so thankful for Brown’s Boot Camp and my teammates for helping me find myself again.

Anthony Badalucco

Hi, my name is Anthony. I came into Brown’s Boot camp at 5’7″ 193 pounds with a 39″ waist. This was a lot for me being a former NCAA athlete whose been out of the game for several months. I figured it was time to get into shape and a family friend of ours has been doing this boot camp. Believe I wasn’t skeptical because I have seen results in reality! So I jumped on this opportunity and haven’t regretted it! Now a lil after 5 months I have been down to 168 pounds and now a 33 waist! I really enjoy doing Brown’s Boot Camp because we have great team work and camaraderie. Being in team sports all my life made the transition to boot camp easier. My teammates and coaches are always on my side and push me to better myself. I am looking forward to continuing to workout with my team and stick to my nutrition and have a ton of fun while doing it!

Randy Brown

Hello! My name is Randy, and I used to weigh 274 pounds with about 44% body fat and had to take two breaths to tie each shoe. Yeah, being unhappy was an understatement. Today, I am 193 pounds with about 7.5% body fat and feel like a million bucks. I made a decision to start caring about myself and haven’t looked back ever since.

If it happened to me, it can happen to you. You see, a friend talked me into joining a fitness boot camp with him, and it literally changed my life. I didn’t want to do it at first, but I did. I went through a total and complete transformation. My instructor taught me how to believe in myself again. With a little hard work, dedication, determination, and consistency I became a new man.

The boot camp made such an impact on my life that I decided to make a profession out of it. Now I am able to give back what was freely given to me and make huge differences in people’s lives. I cannot express in words how good it actually feels to see people’s self esteem and confidence levels skyrocket as a direct result of them letting Brown’s Boot Camp help them. Physical fitness is so crucial in living a better quality life, not to mention longevity. Today, I live life to the fullest and have enough energy to do whatever I want (even keeping up with my 3 teenage kids!)

I instruct 3 boot camps in Oro Valley, teach power yoga and am a life coach as well. Maybe you are not as out of shape as I was, but if you are not happy with your level of fitness, Brown’s Boot Camp can and will make a difference in your life if you let them. If you want what they have to offer you gotta come and get it! The people who get what they want in life get it, because they show up to get it! Want some? GET SOME!!!

Celeste Rodriguez

My intentions when starting Brown’s Boot Camp were to use up the 12 camps I had bought through a promotion and tighten up, since I didn’t want to lose much weight. Wow, was I in for a reality check. Getting fit was a great piece to the puzzle. My body has never been this healthy, but the biggest piece was the life changing experience that I received in that first month and that I continue to receive over a year later. I realized getting physically stronger made my mind stronger. I realized that there were many aspects of my life that I had left unattended just like my health. My amazing coach, Coach Helen, told me many times, “the way you do anything, is the way you do everything.” I took the time to question the areas of my life I was unhappy with and made a conscious decision to change them.

Since starting boot camp I’ve started school, I’ve become a better and also more present mother and wife. I now understand the power of a team and how the support of positive people can hold you up when you aren’t strong enough to do it yourself. The changes I’ve made aren’t over, I continue to take positive steps towards becoming the best version of myself. I can say with great confidence I would not be where I am right now had I not been with Brown’s Boot Camp. I never thought I’d learn so much about myself and what I want in life through a fitness program, but here I am. This community is more than fitness and nutrition, it’s a place to help you create the person you’ve been waiting to become. Give yourself this opportunity!

Megan Ryan

Healthy, happy, fit, confident, successful mother of 3! I would’ve NEVER thought those were words I would use to describe myself in one sentence. I have been with Brown’s Boot Camp for the past year and a half and can attribute so many of my current life successes over the past year to this lifesaving, life giving program. As a busy mom with a full time job, I had tried way too many quick fix, unsustainable diets and workout programs over the course of many years. I had lost and gained back the weight every single time without fail. I was constantly tired, stressed, unhappy with how unbalanced my life was, and uneducated about proper nutrition for my body. I was sick of living the way I was living.

My father, Daniel Ryan, a 5 year BBC vet and fellow boot camper (read his testimonial!!) gifted me 2 months of Browns Bootcamp under one of their promotions. HIS expectations were to help me get motivated and spark something in me to get healthy the RIGHT way. MY expectations were to get through the 2 months, drop some weight thinking I could then continue on my own. Boy was I in for a surprise. In this past year with the Juhan Park team and Coach Helen; Not only have I lost weight, body fat, and inches but I have gained so much more! I have sustainable energy that gets me though my work days. I can keep up with my children. I have excelled and continue to excel in my career. I have BALANCE and have come to love the person I am becoming <3

At any of the Brown’s Boot Camp locations you will find a team of people just like you who will inspire you, help you, and cheer you on. You will have a coach who will push you to do your best, challenge you to excel, and hold you accountable. NO gym will do that for you and that’s a solid fact. BBC not only gives you the tools to be healthy physically but the tools to grow and be a successful person. What are you waiting for?!!

Beth Speer

I started Brown’s Boot Camp in 2012 because I could no longer take care of my horses. Horses have been my hooby my entire adult life. It was very difficult to stay on my feet for more than 2 hours at a time so this was a last ditch effort for me. An interesting part about the start of the program was that I started feeling better almost instantly. Within a couple months, I had already lost enough weight that the pain I was having stopped. I’ve done nothing but improve. This program has not just changed me physically, but mentally too. Brown’s Boot Camp has helped me get back what I had when I was younger, improved my confidence, increased my energy, and helped me live a full life. My thoughts were that I would’ve rather died trying to make myself better than continuing doing what I was doing.

One year ago I decided enough was enough and joined Brown’s Boot Camp. I have lost a total of 53 pounds and 8 dress sizes. Someone close to me recently said “you shouldn’t lose anymore weight your skinny enough”.

If only…

If only it was all about the weight loss. Stay with the program and you going to lose weight. That’s a no brainer. But what the pictures below don’t show you is what I’ve gained over this past year. For me, the gains are what it’s all about.

The gain of a physique that I’m proud of. The gain of self confidence and self respect. Gaining strength and lean muscle while not starving myself. Gaining respect from my supporters, friends and family and setting a positive example for my kids.

This year I will turn 40 in better shape than when I was 20. I’ve managed to step WAY out of my comfort zone and I’ve survived. 💪🏻

Thank you to my coaches Randy Brown and Carie Teague-Deatherage for all your support and encouragement this past year. Thank you to my husband Chris Christiansen for your love, support and motivation. And thank you to my team, my friends and family. I love you and could not have done this without you ❤️

Chris Christiansen

My name is Chris Christiansen and I started Brown’s Boot Camp in October 2015 and BBCFE (nutrition coaching) in January 2016. The impact this has had on my personal fitness and my families fitness is hard to express in words. Although the workout plan is a good thing, the nutrition program is what stands out for me personally. I have been over overweight my entire life. As a child, I did Weight Watchers and then as an adult I tried just about all the fad diets out there. My weight and diet has always been a struggle for me. Roughly 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, which put me on the path of the Atkins diet. The problem I had was it just wasn’t sustainable for me for the long term. Now that I’ve been doing Brown’s Boot Camp and the nutrition for more than a year, my Type 2 Diabetes has been reversed and I eat more food (including carbs) than I ever have in the last 15 to 20 years. At 39 years of age I am now in better shape than I was in high school. As stated by Randy Brown, “Anybody can do jumping jacks and push-ups in the park.” This program is so much more than that! The program will obviously get you in the shape, it will also help with your mental attitude, self-confidence and outward appearance. The nutrition program will change the way you look at food and truly put you on a path for the “lifestyle change” that is sustainable for the long-term!  If you share any of these struggles and truly want change and balance in your life, give BBC a try.  You really don’t have anything to lose and so, so much to gain.

Tanya Bentley

I joined Brown’s Boot Camp (BBC) the second week of January 2015 weighing in at 198 pounds. I wore a size 22, that’s an XXL men’s shirt for all you men out there, because I wore those too. I turned 50 in August 2016, I’m five feet two inches tall, and I knew I was very out of shape. When reality kicks you in the face and hiking with the family is impossible, so impossible that having yourself carried down a mountain might become a reality for you and your family; or leaning over and tying your shoe becomes a real chore because you can’t breathe, you realize something has to change. The more my weight went up the more I would say to myself when I hit that next weight I won’t let myself get over 170 pounds, 180 pounds, then 190 pounds, oh no 200 pounds is around the corner, yikes!

Carie, a previous employee, came to my work in January 2015. She looked great and was unrecognizable; she was participating in the BBC program. She was starting up as a low impact instructor at BBC so I joined her low impact class to support her and have some fun not knowing how out of shape I really was. I had back problems, knee issues, neck problems, and hip issues. I could not do ten jumping jacks without looking like I was dying and pushups off my knees in a full plank position were not happening. I know with each exercise we were given I looked like I was going to have a heart attack; I turned red, could not breathe, and dripped with sweat. I don’t think there was a part or muscle on my body that didn’t go thru some sort of pain. This was pain I knew that was necessary. Not a walk in the park but I ended up loving it.

About one month in Carie asked us all a question as we went around our circle; she asked what our goal was. At the time I just blurted out I want to look like that, and pointed at Carie. When you are in and committed to BBC and take it seriously, life and your health become your goal; you become a happier person; and the weight loss and muscle gain just become a great bonus. I can honestly say that Carie getting me to join BBC saved my life.

After one full year I graduated out of low impact into the normal BBC class with Randy Brown as my coach. I was so scared, I was thinking I would not be able to do it or be able to keep up with the class, some things I still had to modify due to previous injuries. The support of the team is amazing and the team and the coach make you want to keep going. You end up owning it and holding yourself accountable and you get excited to see what the next class will bring. When I see a new person join I get the giggles inside because I know what they will be going thru and the gains they will get. I started the Browns Boot Camp Flexible Eating (BBCFE) program soon after I entered into Randy’s class and really took what I put in my body seriously. I have been doing the BBCFE for almost a year now and getting additional gains; clothes are fitting looser, people are noticing, and it motivates me even more to keep going.

Now about two years into boot camp, I am currently at 140 pounds and very close to a size 5, but this is not just a loss of almost 60 pounds on some fad diet, this is a healthy 140 with decent looking muscle, some muscle I haven’t had in areas for many years or never at all. The life change I decided to make is not over by far; I have further goals and I am a much happier person. The BBC program works. Seriously stop making excuses and give it a try; you will thank yourself or the person who got you to join.

On January 22nd, 2016 I decided it was time for change and I was determined it had to be something that was realistic to do as a work from home mom of two toddlers. Eating was something I knew I could control and that’s why I knew BBCFE was the best option for me. To say that it wasn’t a challenge at times would be lying. There was the struggle of birthday parties, bbq’s and eating out.  BUT I learned how to adapt and get confident in measuring my macros.  It took time to gain this confidence but let me tell you it was SOOOO worth it!  This isn’t a 6 day on 1 day off answer its a 365 days a year kind of change. With that being said, I eat more now than I did weighing 195 pounds and I factored ice cream into my first 4 months of this process (then I was burnt out of ice cream!)  It comes down to knowing what you’re putting in your body and measuring it and LISTENING TO YOUR COACH!  Trust the process.  There were plenty of times I wanted to ask questions or say are you sure I should be eating 300 carbs…but I trusted my coach and the process. Three things I would say you HAVE to do to have success with this are: 1. LISTEN TO YOUR COACH 2. DO WHAT YOUR COACH SAYS 3. Measure correctly!  I cannot thank the BBCFE team enough for there support and guidance on this journey.  I now stand 60 pounds lighter and happier than ever to look in the mirror.  I would recommend this process to anyone ready to make a change!

I’ve been in Brown’s Boot Camp since November of 2015. I have lost inches off my waist, my muscles are getting toned and I am getting stronger. I have more energy and I have lost 15 lbs. Boot camp has really helped me with my overall fitness and health goals.

The boot camp changes all the time. You never do the same thing twice and that’s what brings me back. It’s always fresh; new exercises, new techniques, and new pain the next day. You don’t know what’s coming and that’s what makes you come back for more. One of my favorite parts of boot camp is the team encouragement that I get from my other team members and my coach, Randy Brown. Thanks to BBC and BBCFE (Brown’s Boot Camp Flexible Eating), I feel great about myself and love my team. I will forever be grateful to Randy for everything he has done for me.

Melba Cope

When I joined Browns Boot Camp (BBC) and began Browns Boot Camp Flexible Eating (BBCFE), all I wanted to do was lose 13-15 lbs. Five months later when I celebrated my 72nd birthday, I realized that I was experiencing gains and benefits I had never dreamed possible. Not only did I weigh less, but I was stronger, leaner, healthier and more mentally prepared to face the challenges of each day.

melba

In five months I have lost 18 lbs, trimmed off 8% body fat, and whittled away 6.75 inches around my waist.  My body muscle percentage has increased almost 4%.  I have made many new friends, have a special BBC family who is always there for me no matter what, and have personally reconnected with myself during our readings at the beginning of each camp and during our personal reflection moments following the workout. I have fed my body nutritious and plentiful food. My annual physical about midway into the program revealed major improvements in my cholesterol and blood pressure numbers, allowing me to continue on my medication-free journey, which at my age is quite significant. My bone density has improved without any help from medication.

I have been an active adult for most of the last 45 years. My activities involved walking, running, bicycling, racquet sports, weightlifting, aerobics, and hiking, but something was always missing; consistency. My life was like a yo-yo…..up and down with diets, workouts, and weight issues. Now, for the first time, I believe I have found a program that provides the balance and accountability that I need to stay consistent. I look forward to my workouts with my teammates and my interaction with the coaches at BBC. They keep me accountable. My boot camp workouts are as important as any other appointment I have during the day….maybe even more so!  What can be more important than investing in myself to be the healthiest I can be? A healthy me simply means that I can truly live in the moment. Therefore, I can enjoy myself, my family, and my friends to the fullest. That is huge; life is precious!

Previous diets that I have been on never left me satisfied; many times I felt like I was being deprived and that my body was not getting the fuel that it needed to work efficiently. And it wasn’t!!  Well, not so with BBCFE!  Rather than eating greens three or four times a day, I am now eating a healthy balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. I can count on my fingers of one hand the amount of times I have been hungry!  In fact, when I first started on BBCFE, I wondered how I could possibly eat as much food as my nutrition coach wanted me to eat!  I was a bit skeptical at first, but the results speak for themselves. It has been an amazing journey with this nutrition plan. My body is truly being transformed and I am a “new me.” I cannot imagine life without my food scale!  Knowing exactly how much is going into my mouth provides a tremendous amount of security!

In the past, there were many endings and beginnings with my diets and workouts. With BBC and BBCFE I envision a future with a continuous line of balance and accountability. Do you know how secure this makes me feel? It is huge! I know my boot camp coaches, Carie and Randy, will never let me down. They will always be there, inspiring me to be the very best that I can be. I know that my team will always be there, giving me positive support and encouragement. I know that my nutrition coach, Alfred, will be there to oversee my nutrition plan, ensuring that my body is getting the fuel that it needs to hum along at an efficient pace.

Before I complete this testimonial, I want to address an important issue about the photographs shown.  Do you wonder why the “before” photo does not show my head?  Well, it is painful to admit how I felt at the time this photo was taken, but I will proceed to share this with you.  Perhaps it will strike a chord with someone who reads this and they will then understand that they are not alone.

In September, it was suggested that I have a photo taken of myself before my journey began. My husband took this photo (my head was part of the image) and I was embarrassed how my body looked. It is amazing how this photo took away any confidence that I had gathered in order to even make the photo possible in the first place! I thought that I loved myself regardless of how I looked. But sometimes what we think to be true about ourselves is not reality.

I did not want to own the body that I saw in the photo. It was as simple as that. So, I activated the crop tool and cropped off my head. This made the photo “safe.” My thinking was simply, “no one will ever be able to prove that this is actually me.”  At the time I had no idea that someday I would be so lean and strong that I would be comfortable showing my “previous Melba”! In the past, it certainly had never happened after any of my other diets.

Because of the confidence I now have with my experiences at BBC and BBCFE, I know how important this “before” photo is! Does it matter that my head is not in the photo? No. I know that body. I can look at it, accept it, and embrace it. I now am able to take ownership of the shape of my previous body, which is a very positive concept. It subsequently allows me to see the broader picture, which is simply:

Love it all! For if I had never been as I was in that “before” photo, it is for certain that I would never be as I am in the “after” photo.

My life has been changed and I am on a very exciting journey! I am grateful to BBC and BBCFE beyond words. Keep the story going and don’t drop the curtain-the play isn’t over yet!

We joined Brown’s Boot Camp in January 2015 along with our son, Michael. Brown’s Boot Camp has been one of the most incredible things that we have done and has truly changed our lives for the better! We are part of the Juhan Park team coached by Helen Thoenes. Helen is an awesome coach that truly inspires you to be your best self. She motivates you to translate the hard work you do on the court to every aspect of your life including your career, your relationships and, in our case, parenting too. We have also attended numerous sessions with Randy Brown and other BBC coaches and they are all just as gifted. We can’t say enough about the stellar team Randy has built at BBC and we love them all!

One of the biggest apprehensions Emily had about starting boot camp was the inability to do a pushup, let alone run a mile! The team that you become a part of and train with 3 days a week, becomes such a support to you. They help you make the things that you thought were impossible, possible. Also, every boot camp begins and ends with a positive message from your coach – not something you’d get at the gym. BBC really encompasses emotional, mental and physical well-being. It is surprising how many times a day we refer to a message we heard at boot camp. It almost seems like this program is too good to be true, but it’s not! When we started we planned to attend for no more than 3 months, but now we cannot imagine why we would ever stop!

We are parents to 4 beautiful children who are all very active. While our children mean the world to us, boot camp has taught us the very valuable lesson that we have to take care of ourselves in order to take care of them. Our oldest son Michael, 15 at the time, agreed to join boot camp with us. We were overwhelmed by the positive changes we saw in him from the start. Michael has always been an athletic kid who has played numerous sports, but BBC really helped him find value in relying on teammates, and working together towards a greater goal.

We have been together 17 years and married for 14. During those years we have been on every diet you can imagine. The challenge was always keeping the weight off after the ‘diet’ ended. No sustainable long term results were attainable because once the restrictions stopped, the weight came right back. While weight loss was always our goal, we didn’t realize that there was so much more to it than just the number on the scale. With BBCFE (Brown’s Boot Camp Flexible Eating) which we write about in the following paragraph, long term sustainable results are completely attainable. In the past 10 months we have not felt deprived of any food we wanted to eat. We definitely have learned to make better choices, but we are also still able to eat all the foods we LOVE. Seriously, we have not fallen off ‘the wagon’ one time since we started! With BBCFE you simply don’t have to make ridiculous sacrifices of entire food groups. BBCFE is the best thing ever and we could go on and on about how much we LOVE it!!! And we will…

When we started boot camp in January, we also began BBCFE. For 6 months we did this on our own and had great success. During month 7 we went on a fun hike with the entire BBC team, at which time we had an opportunity to chat in detail with Randy about nutritional coaching. Post conversation, we chose to take our nutrition to the next level which is when Mike Marconi became our nutrition coach. The first step was to fix any metabolic damage we had done in the past while continuing on the amazing BBCFE plan. Mike has helped us really listen to our bodies and has given us a whole new perspective on being fit. The greatest thing about Mike, as well as the other members of the BBC staff, is that they all “walk the walk” along with you! During the time that Mike has been our nutritional coach, he has been training for a Natural Bodybuilding competition. While he is along with us on a life changing journey, we are a part of his too. If your goal is to lose weight, we highly encourage you to start nutritional counseling at the same time that you start boot camp. It’s so important for long term progress, in our opinion.

It doesn’t take long to realize that Brown’s Boot Camp is much more than “jumping jacks in the park!” This program is rock solid! We highly recommend it to everyone, and we have encouraged quite a few people to join since we started. Our results speak for themselves; together we have lost 114 pounds in 10 months! Emily is down 60.4 and Jason is down 53.6. In addition, we’ve lost a combined total of 19.5 inches off our waists, Jason at 11.5 and Emily at 8. More importantly we have gained valuable, sustainable, long term results and a lot of great friends!

Come join us and see for yourself. We promise you will not regret it!

In 2011 I was 56 years old, not in horrible shape, not terribly fat, but definitely not in great physical shape either. I was what you might call a “skinny fat man”. That was what I could see on the outside. Little did I know what danger was lurking on the inside of my body, but more on that later. In September of 2011, I saw a news story about Brown’s Boot Camp. Something told me, this is just what I need to finally keep my annual resolution to myself. This was going to be the year I would get back in shape. For decades I tried starvation diets and bought all kinds of gym equipment that eventually ended up as clothes hangers. I was eating terribly and doing no regular exercise of any kind. To be honest, when I first met with Randy Brown, my intention was to do the boot camp program for a month or maybe a few months, until I got in shape, and then I would be fine. My first day of Brown’s Boot Camp was pretty tough on me, I’m not going to lie. We did a physical test where we did timed sit-ups, timed push-ups, and a timed mile. I can remember thinking, “I’m in way over my head!” This is the key area where Brown’s Boot Camp WORKS!! I got so much push and encouragement from not only Helen (my fantastic coach) but from all of the other boot campers. It made ALL the difference in the world. Finally I found something that worked!!!

This would be a nice success story if it ended right here…. But it really is only the beginning. I have stayed with Brown’s Boot Camp instead of quitting after a month or two. As it turns out it was probably the single most important decision I have made in my adult life. September of 2014 I was feeling pretty good physically. I could run a fairly quick mile. Over all my strength, energy and endurance had increased. I was feeling very good. So imagine my surprise when I had a major heart attack. September 24th, I had just finished a pretty rigorous boot camp session and said good bye to my teammates and headed home. Thank God my route home went right past St. Mary’s hospital. My shoulder started to hurt and then it trailed down my arm. I was sweating profusely and knew something serious was happening. At the hospital they confirmed I was, indeed, in the middle of a major heart attack, and they would do everything to take care of me. They kept their promise and a few hours later I was resting comfortably in an ICU room. When things calmed down, all I could think of was, why ME?? I am now eating right and I exercise regularly. How could this be?? Pay close attention to this part of the story. The heart attack was NOT exercise induced. Two cardiologists and a cardiac surgical nurse assured me that the heart attack would have happened if I had been sitting at home watching TV. My artery was 100% occluded. This was the result of the previous 35 years of not eating correctly and not regularly exercising. What they also told me was that because I have an “athletic” heart (their words) there virtually was NO heart damage. They also told me that if had been over weight and/or a smoker, I would not have survived that heart attack. Six months later I ran a half marathon and shortly after my 60th birthday I ran a sub seven minute mile. You can see that my decision to join and stay with Brown’s Boot Camp was LITERALLY a life saving decision. It is also a life affirming decision. What I have gained from being in the Brown’s Boot Camp family goes way beyond just what benefits I have gained, my family has also jumped on the healthy life style band wagon. It is SO much more than jumping jacks in the park. I have seen so many other amazing stories of conquest and success, I know it works. I know it will work for you!

I started with Randy Brown and Brown’s Boot Camp in July of 2012. I did not know what to expect but I was tired of feeling like age was getting the best of me. I was also tired of making excuses as to why I could not “make it” to the gym.

The gains I have made with Randy, Alfred and Mike are incredible! First, I have lost over 28 lbs. Second and more importantly, I am leaner, stronger, faster, and healthier and in better shape both physically and mentally at age 44 than I was at age 18. This program holds you accountable, inspires change and produces results. My thanks to everyone at BBC who has assisted me in achieving my goals.

It has been just over 2 years now since I joined Brown’s Boot Camp and I have to say that not only am I in the best shape of my life, but I am more at peace and have made lifelong friendships.
To be honest, what I have discovered through my time with these great people is that health, fitness, and correct nutrition can be a lifestyle change that is easily embraced. The support and friendships I have received has made the past 2 years of my life the best. My boot camp instructor, Randy Brown, has still kept me motivated even after 2 years.
I have lost over 4 inches off my waist and can see muscle and ribs in my midsection for the first time since high school. While that is fun to see, the best part is the energy I have to play with my children.
As I became more involved with my lifestyle change at BBC, I began weightlifting sessions with BBC Trainer Alfred Beltran. I have learned so much regarding proper form and focus which has all but cleared up lower back issues I have struggled with my whole life. Then, my family and I decided we were spending WAY too much money on dining out at restaurants every month and that the food was not all that good…so we began having BBC Chef Alfred Beltran come to our home once a week to cook our food for the week for us. Alfred was the chef at Harvest Restaurant in Oro Valley for quite some time as well as the Sioux Chef at Miraval Resort…so the food is off the charts yummy! We have saved hundreds of dollars having Alfred cook for us and are eating better quality food than we ever have.
Finally, my wife and I have been participating in the BBCFE (Brown’s Boot Camp Flexible Eating) program for just over 13 months with BBC Nutritionist Coach Mike Marconi. Let me explain why this is my favorite part (although Chef Alfred is right there):
Imagine eating normal food every day for each meal, no matter what time of day it is or which drive thru you happened to go in, as long as you are keeping track of your daily intake of these foods, regardless of the time of day, within what is known as your macro-nutrients, your metabolism burns that food the way it was meant to and you lose body fat…slowly over time. If you look at my Facebook profile, you will see photos of foods I consume that makes many “fitness instructors” cringe…yet I still lose body fat and am leaner than I have been since 18 years of age because my coach adjusts my numbers each week to maximize my metabolic rate. It is crazy!!!! Brown’s Boot Camp has several nutrition coaches to teach you how to do this and hold you accountable to your goals.
This is a great group of people and I have made so many great friends. I never thought health and fitness would be a hobby in my life and now I can’t imagine not being on the court with my team three times each week.

I began this journey with a goal in mind but found that this is a trip of a lifetime. This is not a 21 day fix, or a 6 week transformation, nor is it a month challenge! It is a lifestyle change! BBC (Brown’s Boot Camp), however, offers you all the tools you need like exercise, weight training, nutrition and life coaching, to name a few; but the best part for me has been the never give up attitude everyone has for you! Some things aren’t as easy for everyone but your team is always there to give you the support you need to stay on track. No matter how many times you need help staying on! We all have our ups and downs but this lifestyle has helped me find answers to many of the challenges I faced with exercise and nutrition. When you start seeing physical changes occasionally the mind doesn’t keep up with those changes so things can seem unbalanced! The readings and the direction shared by your coach is to help you find that place where your body, mind and spirit are all aligned and balanced. It’s a different journey for everyone involved; some get it quickly, some of us take much longer. However, BBC and all it has to offer makes sure that no matter which road you take the gift of health is always within your grasp. My journey started April 2012 and with every turn something wonderful opens up. I’m sure I will be traveling this road for a very long time and wouldn’t trade my traveling partners for anything! I would recommend BBC and all it has to offer to anyone!! It’s a choice you will never regret!

I joined Brown’s Boot Camp July 2012 knowing I was way over weight and way out of shape. Now, July 2013 I am 100 scale pounds lighter and way healthier. I still have a ways to go on my journey to fitness, but “WOW”, what a journey it has been. In the past year my life has changed immensely. The only thing that has remained constant has been my quest for a healthier way of life. I say this not to point out the good or bad, but to point out the fact that amongst the chaos life throws at you, fitness and health helps you to deal with it so much better. In this year I have graduated from college, watched my husband’s health decline to where he has been prematurely placed on medical disability, became the primary provider for my family, became a school teacher, lost my mother, and accomplished my first Spartan Run with my 17 year old son. These are the things that immediately come to mind, but if I thought hard I could find a hurdle I jumped every month. Brown’s Boot Camp and the family they create have given me the synergy every month to make it through everything life has thrown at me. Every Mon, Wed, and Fri my instructor Helen Williamson Thoenes leads me and a group of training partners through workouts which help me forget about life for that hour and focus on training. The workouts have given me physical and mental strength to deal with everything life has thrown at me.

One of the most amazing things to me is the faith my instructor Helen and the team have had for me when I did not have the faith in myself. It never ceases to amaze me how we have all learned to pull together as a team and help each other through workouts and life. The cool thing is that Brown’s Boot Camp goes beyond the workout. Helen will take your call during the day if you are having a question or concern and my team mates post on my Facebook wall all the time when they see things they think will interest me. We have become a family in and out of Brown’s Boot Camp. It’s amazing what a person can do when they surround themselves with people who have common goals. We have become a family and help each other in and out of the boot camp environment. You’ll never see that at a gym.

My personal quest started in July 2012. I was exercising and counting calories, but not really losing. Helen told me to keep a food journal and show her. I was staying under 1200 calories, but she told me I needed more protein. I needed to switch carb calories for protein based calories. It wasn’ t really as easy as calories in/calories out. I switched what she recommended and saw better results in August. Sept came and my life was crazy. I opted not to do boot camp and train for something else. Helen called me during this month and asked why I dropped. The accountability was amazing. I blamed it on cash flow, but really – just didn’t know if it was for me. Later that month she called and asked me if I would represent Brown’s Boot Camp in a fitness challenge (Tucson’s Greatest Loser). I don’t know what she saw, but she had faith I could do this. Randy agreed with her recommendation and the two placed me in this competition as their rep. The support I got from the entire team during this six weeks amazed me beyond belief. Their nutritionist taught me how to eat a Paleo life style, all their instructors supported me and offered encouragement. I posted everything I was doing on Facebook as an accountability to the program and it amazed me how many boot camp folks were following me and encouraging. These were people I had never even met! My boot camp buddies were phenomenal in helping me too. Everyone seemed to have faith in me, except myself. It was really an odd thing. I wanted to do the El Tour De Tucson short course (42 mile) ‘cause I didn’t think I could do more than that. This had nothing to do with boot camp, yet my instructor worked it into our workouts and even rode it with me. More amazing is that instructors I didn’t know and the owner of Brown’s Boot Camp were there at the end of the El Tour to congratulate us. This blew my mind. Why would people who really didn’t know me come to see me finish something that meant nothing to them? It was simple; they wanted to support my efforts. Again, they had faith when I didn’t. I blew away the six week challenge and with the help of a damn good instructor and the entire boot camp team, I won by losing 43.4 scale pounds. This was really just the start. Since then, I set a new goal and reached it. I kept doing this every month – setting a goal and attaining it. Some goals have been mental, some have been weight loss, some have been fitness. No matter what they are, my instructor asks and helps push towards it. I’m no one special, Helen does this with every member in our boot camp and I’m fairly confident so does every other instructor. I have gone to other classes and seen the same camaraderie. I see it posted on line through instructors and boot camp members. Every 4 weeks we start a new cycle, and every 4 weeks I keep coming back as so many others do too. It’s an awesome synergy that is created as everyone helps everyone. I don’t know if I’ll ever wrap my head around everything that has happened in the past year, or if I’ll ever get where I want to be, but I know I have improved my chances with the best opportunities by being in Brown’s Boot Camp. I know I will reach physical and mental goals, I know I will have continued success in fitness and if I don’t have continued weight loss, I will redefine the weight I have and get a more fit body. Brown’s Boot Camp works – I’m proof of it, and I will keep coming back because now I can help others help themselves, just as so many others have done for me.

I first came to Brown’s Boot Camp looking for guidance to help me with my goal of losing weight. I received much more. Not only did I lose weight, I have more confidence and my self-esteem has risen much more than I expected. The motivation given to me by Randy and the whole team is a true blessing. Everyone at Brown’s Boot Camp is truly concerned about each other, strives for excellence in health and nutrition and is always there to help one another. Randy Brown helps you achieve your goals with his tenacious consistently and loyalty to you not normally found from the more expensive gym personal trainers! It was a struggle in the beginning, to get going with the exercise, (running), and to follow the diet plan. It is a life style change that works more effectively than diet alone and medical weight loss programs which prescribe you medication that can be very expensive. The changes within me are not only to my benefit, but to those in my life that mean the most, my family. This program has helped me tremendously in many ways to lose weight and change bad habits. Thank you so much.

I am a 62 year old retired airline pilot.  With a job career like this, it is easy to gain weight because it’s difficult to find time to exercise and eat the right nutrition while on the job.  After I retired in December 2011, one of my best friends insisted that I attend Brown’s Boot camp with him.  At first, I was skeptical whether I needed a boot camp or just needed to get to the gym more often, but thanks to Rick, I thought I would try it out.  I began the 3rd week of January 2012, and after my first day of working out, I was sore and felt like quitting, but I was determined to stay with the program and achieve my goal .  I made a commitment to Randy that I would give him 100% effort at each class.  Some days were tougher than others, but I stayed the course each week.  After 4 weeks, I started seeing results at my weigh-ins.  As a 5′ 9″ tall male, I weighed 190 lbs, had 30% body fat, 31% muscle, and a 39″ waistline.  What I immediately noticed at the boot camp was the camaraderie and support that everyone in the group had for each other, even for me as the newcomer in the group.  Together we worked out hard and supported each other in order to accomplish our own personal goals.

Randy Brown is a qualified, knowledgeable instructor who runs a tight boot camp.  You are expected to be there at class on time each and every time, and you are expected to give 100% effort in order to accomplish your personal goal.  Randy will let you know if you are doing the exercises wrong, but will also recognize you when you are doing it right.  He, along with the other members in the group, will push you to be successful.  This is a total TEAM effort, which actually makes accomplishing your personal goal easier.  We work out hard, we work out together, and we support each other in the process.

After 10 months of boot camp and with the support of Randy and my team, I am currently down to 160 lbs, 17% body fat, nearly 38% muscle, and I have finally achieved (once again) a 32″ waist line.  The last time I had a 32″waist line, I was 25 years old.  Oh, by the way, during my fitness test, I was able to run a 7:01 minute mile.  If you follow with the proper nutrition and show up each and every time for training, you too can accomplish your own personal goal.  If I can accomplish mine at age 61, you certainly can too.  This program works.  If you want to lose the fat, look better and feel your best, this is the program that will help you get there.  The choice is yours.  If you decide to join us, all it takes is for YOU to eat the right nutrition, and commit to working out 100% three days a week.  Your team will be there to support you all the way.  One word of caution:  losing weight, looking better, and feeling your very best can be addictive.

In January, 2010, I took it upon myself to make a change and called Brown’s Boot Camp, not knowing whether or not I could even participate. I explained to Randy that I didn’t know if I could do it due to my health history, but I really wanted to try. I had severe asthma since childhood and was diagnosed several years before with a rare autoimmune disorder, polymyositis. I was put on massive doses of steroids over a two-year period which caused massive weight gain and other nasty side effects. When I finally went into remission, I was not only overweight, but also told by physicians that my muscle tissue may never be the same and I would need to be careful to not over-exert myself. I took this advice to heart because every time I did participate in any type of physical activity, I was not only weak, but in pain. I did lose some of the weight I had put on, but was still 50 lbs heavier. Over the years, I tried different diets, but nothing worked for me.

I remember the very first bootcamp session which was a fit test of 2 mins of push-ups, sit-ups and a mile run. I had never run a mile in my entire life and was terrified. I ran a tenth of a mile, and had to walk the rest of the way. My time was a miserable 18:06. I was embarrassed and felt defeated, but one of the girls in my class walked with me on my last lap around the track and told me, “I know you don’t believe this now, but I promise you, stick with it, and you will see a difference.” I didn’t believe her, of course, but because she took the time to encourage me, I was determined to keep trying. With each fit test, the class would run with me on that last lap encouraging me to finish. By the end of the first month, I actually ran my first mile without stopping and was so happy, I cried tears of joy on my way home!

I also paid attention to the diet, which has become a way of life for me. My results were gradual over time, but I went from a size 14 to a size 0 pant size and have lost 50 lbs of body fat. Also, my best fit test mile is a 9:15 to-date, and because of Brown’s Boot Camp, I fell in love with running! I trained on my own and competed in my first race in July of 2010. Since then, I have competed in 10 races of which 2 were half-marathons. I’m currently training for another half-marathon this summer and plan to train for my first full-marathon by the end of this year.

Brown’s Boot Camp gave me the ability to believe in myself again and realize that the sky is the limit – anything is possible. Mindy has been my trainer since January 2010, and she continues to challenge and inspire me to go above and beyond what I thought I could do. I’m so honored to not only have her as my trainer, but also someone I consider a true friend. What I also love about Brown’s Boot Camp is the team approach – we are there to support and encourage each other in our journey. One of my greatest joys is seeing the success others in my class have achieved, and I can’t tell you what it means to be able to run that last lap with my teammates and telling them, “I know you don’t believe this now, but I promise you, stick with it and you will see a difference.”

Helen Thoenes

helen

Hi…my name is Helen and I’m a Fatty McFat Fat. (Hi Helen…)

For me, being fat is just one symptom of being an addict. Alcoholism is another symptom. I am proud to say that I have 6 and a half years of sobriety. It took me three tries to figure out how to work a program of recovery from alcoholism. My fat-ism has taken much the same path as my alcoholism only with many more repetitions of trying and failing, of repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result. It has been my experience that the only difference between overeating and over-drinking is the substance being abused.

I don’t know what is different about this time, but I am making a concerted effort to figure that out. I don’t want to gain and lose this fifty pounds again. I know it’s not good for my body, but mostly it’s not good for my spirit.

I met Randy Brown at my job. I work for a church and he was making arrangements to use part of our facility to house some of his classes during the frigid Arizona winter months (lol). Something about him spoke to me. Maybe it was what we had in common. Maybe it was what we didn’t have in common. All I knew was I didn’t want to be fat. Randy wasn’t fat. I didn’t want to be out of shape. Randy wasn’t out of shape. I didn’t want to feel ashamed and embarrassed. Randy wasn’t…well, you get the idea.

So, I took the plunge and called Randy. We met. He interviewed me. I showed up for class, and I just kept showing up. That was a year ago. Some months were better than others. My first month I was the biggest loser. My next month, not nearly as good but still going strong. My third month I brought my 17 year old who totally kicked my butt. My fourth month, totally unmemorable. My fifth month, so so for boot camp but I ran a half

marathon. My sixth month I struggled as my job was killing me. My seventh month I got a bit more focused and brought my oldest son with me. My eighth month I brought my best friend and my youngest son and went to boot camp five days a week. I had a big break through that month. My ninth month I only did three weeks but I worked out where I was…a first for being away. My tenth month I was gone a week, still

working out while I was away. My eleventh month I began training for all 109 miles of the El Tour de Tucson. As I am writing this I am beginning to see what might be different about this time. I’m in it for the long haul. It’s about dedication and consistency over time. Doing the right thing over and over and over. Do I always get it right? Uh…NO! I make mistakes. I make excuses. Plenty of both. That’s where Randy comes in. Randy is a great motivator with an incredible story of personal determination and a powerful desire to become something more. Maybe that’s what I saw in him and wanted for myself. And he holds me accountable. (Wow does it suck to get an incoming call at 5:45am that says “Randy Brown”). Brown’s Boot Camp has been life changing. Randy, Mindy and Alicia are awe inspiring. I have a family who I choose to be with every M, W, and F at 5:30am. Not because it’s always fun. Not because I’m a super hero. Not even because Randy is (well, he’s almost one. Have you seen those guns?!?! Now Mindy, I actually believe she might really be a super hero…And Alicia? Well, anyone who lives with Randy is either a super hero OR crazy!) Mostly I keep going because I am becoming something more. And I want to continue. I don’t want to be fat. I don’t want to be lazy. I don’e want to make excuses. I just want to get it done.

If you want that too, let Randy and his big family of followers believe in you until you can believe in yourself again. It’s totally worth all the pain, all the doubt, all the money, all the everything. Totally!

Todd Jarkovsky

It was August of 2009 and a scheduled doctors appointment brought to light the need to lose weight and get into shape. Over the years, I gained weight and always knew it would catch up with me. I was experiencing the typical symptoms of being overweight, shortness of breath, lack of energy, depressed because clothes fit terribly and list goes on.

I am a very competitive person and felt I could overcome this challenge like every other challenge I have faced and overcome in life. In a nutshell the doctor says, “you must lose at least 30 pounds to avoid serious health issues”. The challenge was on but I didn’t have a plan. I tried to eat a bit better and played some basketball at the park. I lost about 10 pounds on my own but realized that I would not be able to make the progress needed to turn around my health issues on my own.

Randy Brown had spoken to me a few times in the park when I was playing basketball. He pitched his boot camp and the results he could guarantee if I worked the program. Today I tease him about stalking me! I was a prime candidate for his boot camp and he wanted me to lose what looked like a basketball I was carrying under my shirt. My first thought was whether or not I could afford the program and it was obvious I couldn’t afford NOT to sign up. My health and the need to be around for my loved ones who depended on me became a priority. Randy reminds his boot campers that they must take care of themselves before they can take care of anyone else.

I signed up in September 2009 and have not missed a month since I started. I did reach the 30 pounds of weight that the doctor recommended by November 2009 and he was truly astounded at my transformation. Recently I reached the milestone of 40 pounds of body fat lost. I have transformed the way I look and the way people look at me. I am healthier and more physically fit than I’ve been in over 30 years. What I am most proud of is the example I have set and the impact it has had on my family. Today my wife and my daughter both attend Brown’s Boot camp and they have also experienced the positive effects of the program.

The story does not end here, I still have a way to go to get the level of fitness I want to achieve. Along the way, people who I work with have noticed the positive change in my MIND, BODY and SPIRIT and have joined Brown’s Boot Camp. Randy has touched the lives of many people who I interact with each day and all of them feel and look better.

My only regret is that I didn’t find Brown’s Boot Camp sooner.

Thank You Brown’s Boot Camp!

I was out of work, out of breath, and out of shape. Randy’s Boot Camp helped me get back some of the confidence I used to have before a devastating layoff, feelings of self doubt, and frequent snacking in front of my computer put me back on the path to obesity faster than a lightning bolt hitting the ground. While frantically job searching in a bad economy, I knew I had to take charge of my life and use my free time productively. I could not just sit in front my computer anymore waiting for life to find me, so I went out and found my life starting with Randy’s Boot Camp. At 275, I was easily the heaviest person in boot camp with the most to lose if I finish, and even more to lose if I didn’t. The physical transformation is amazing and well documented throughout the programs frequent progress reports. But the confidence I gained can’t be measured. I can’t tell you how amazing it was on the last day of boot camp to run a mile under 9 minutes, to lose 5 inches on my waist, and Yes count it, having 3 job interviews on the last week followed up by 3 job offers! The confidence was back and all I needed was a well tailored suit, and million dollar smile and a strong hand shake and my interviews went extremely well. I am now employed, I am now in charge, and I got the swagger back in my step and my life.

One Day I walked to the mailbox at the end of my driveway, and I realized that I was out of breath! How could it be? I’m only 60 years young and I used to be in shape; so what happened? Well, what happened in that, not only did I stop being active years ago, but I had packed on 30 lbs. on my 5’1” body! I felt old and depressed, and I looked it too. I thought about joining a gym, but I’ve been there, done that, and I never followed thought due to lack of discipline. At work, I heard some people talking about joining a boot camp. When they asked me to join, I kind of chuckled at the visual. Well, after a lot of coaxing, I said yes, figuring I could quit anytime I thought the going was too tough. When the instructor told us on the first day, “This isn’t band camp, this is boot camp, and if you want it bad enough, you’ll show up to get it.” I wondered what I had gotten myself into! Well, I pushed myself though sheer will, on the first week. Muscles that I didn’t even know I had hurt, but I wouldn’t give up. My instructor wouldn’t let me break; he kept telling me I could do it! Well to make a long story short, I went from not being able to run, or do much of anything else, the first week. By the 2 week, after the pain lessened I felt stronger. By the 3 and 4 week I was keeping up with the rest of the group and asking about the next boot camp! Yes, I joined again. Not only do I have energy to spare, my self esteem and my confidence have soared, due to a loss of 16.4 lbs. of body fat. I’m halfway through my second boot camp and looking forward to the 3rd!
