Want Some? Get Some!

Founder & Coach

Hello! My name is Randy, and I used to weigh 274 pounds with about 44% body fat and had to take two breaths to tie each shoe. Yeah, being unhappy was an understatement. Today, I am 193 pounds with about 7.5% body fat and feel like a million bucks. I made a decision to start caring about myself and haven’t looked back ever since.

If it happened to me, it can happen to you. You see, a friend talked me into joining a fitness boot camp with him, and it literally changed my life. I didn’t want to do it at first, but I did. I went through a total and complete transformation. My instructor taught me how to believe in myself again. With a little hard work, dedication, determination, and consistency I became a new man.

The boot camp made such an impact on my life that I decided to make a profession out of it. Now I am able to give back what was freely given to me and make huge differences in people’s lives. I cannot express in words how good it actually feels to see people’s self esteem and confidence levels skyrocket as a direct result of them letting Brown’s Boot Camp help them. Physical fitness is so crucial in living a better quality life, not to mention longevity. Today, I live life to the fullest and have enough energy to do whatever I want (even keeping up with my 2 teenage kids)!

I instruct 4 boot camps in Oro Valley and teach power yoga as well. Maybe you are not as out of shape as I was, but if you are not happy with your level of fitness, Brown’s Boot Camp can and will make a difference in your life if you let them. If you want what they have to offer you gotta come and get it! The people who get what they want in life get it, because they show up to get it! Want some? GET SOME!!!

Hi! My name is Helen and I have been with Randy at Brown’s Boot Camp since November of 2009. Since joining, I’ve lost 40 pounds of scale weight which translates to more than 75 pounds of body fat. I’ve gone from 44% body fat to 22% and will get to 20% before 2014 passes.

Since my mid-twenties, I have lost and gained anywhere from 20-60 pounds so many separate times that I’ve lost count. I was an athlete through high school but after graduation (MANY years ago) I was more interested in the party life than sports. Then, about 15 years ago, I became an “event” athlete. That is, I enjoyed a decent level of fitness when I trained for a specific event (such as a half or full marathon). But once the event was completed I would resume a more sedentary lifestyle, punctuated by horrible eating habits, too much caffeine, not enough sleep, too much work, etc. It was all a part of my health and fitness cycle of dysfunction. I was getting older and I knew I needed a change…

Enter Randy Brown. Since joining Brown’s Boot Camp, I have trained for and completed another half marathon as well as trained for and completed the full 109 mile El Tour de Tucson in November of 2010. I still enjoy training for and completing events. The difference is that I now have a “staple” fitness program. No matter what single event for which I train, during the training and after I complete the event, attending Brown’s is the biggest part of maintaining my overall great health and fitness.

It is my plan to reach my goal weight by July of 2014. It will take determination and discipline over the long haul to keep the pounds off. But my chances of success are dramatically increased because of the improved mental, physical, and spiritual health I’ve achieved as a result of making Brown’s Boot Camp a part of my life.

Days are passing. Time is marching on. Stop making excuses and come take YOUR power back, HOOAH? HOOAH!!

See you at Boot Camp!

Hi! My name is Vanessa and I have been with Randy at Brown’s Boot Camp since November 2010. My initial reason for joining Brown’s Boot Camp was my son Joe. At the time, he was only 15 years old, weighting over 230 pounds. He did a few sports but they did not help with his weight.  After four months of working out only three times a week and improving his eating habits, Joe lost over 50 pounds. His confidence and self esteem improved so much.

I was 136 pounds and I am only 5’1” feet tall. I lost over 20 pounds and went from 39% body fat to 22%.  The biggest improvement was my waist line. I went from a size 8-6 to a size 2-0.

I was a long distance runner for over 10 years while living in the San Francisco Bay Area and after moving here I had a hard time adjusting to weather so I stopped running. Then, I got Rheumatic Fever. It destroyed my immune system. I received penicillin shots for more than 3 years. I had to boost my immune system with a healthy diet and destress myself. I practiced Yoga for 5 years but didn’t do any cardio exercises. I was terrified of germs due to my illness so using the gym machines was out of the question. Brown’s Boot camp proved to me the program works. I felt welcome and received so much support from all the boot campers, especially the veterans who had been in the program for a while.  My son and I fell in love with the program even though it was difficult at times. I was out of shape! All I kept thinking while enduring the pain was “I must be willing to fail in order to succeed.” We noticed a difference in many areas not just physically. Our minds are so powerful if we let them take over. Today, Brown’s Boot Camp continues to change lives and for that I am extremely thankful.

I used to use our weather as an excuse to not get out and stay active. We all have excuses! What’s yours? What if we use our excuses as reasons? My goal is to be able to PASS IT ON! To plant belief in those who want more and are willing to do more.  Whether your goal is to get in great shape, lose few pounds, become healthier, or just be the best that you can be, Brown’s Boot camp will get you there! There is nothing greater than the feeling of personal growth! Join us TODAY and take YOUR power back!

Believe, take Action and you will Achieve!

Hi, my name is Luke. I am Randy’s son and I have been doing Brown’s Boot Camp on and off ever since it started. The people that participate in Brown’s Boot Camp are part of my family and they are always willing to help me or another person in the BBC family out. From personal experience, I can share that working out with a team is a lot better than working out by myself. Even though I’m a teenager, this program still changed my life. I play soccer and I’m athletic, but Brown’s Boot Camp is the most challenging fitness program I have completed. When I’m not currently participating in a BBC camp, I stay plugged in by editing pictures.

My job here at BBC is to edit pictures taken at each of the boot camps. A majority of all of the pictures come from me. I am a self-taught photo editor and I have been editing photos for Brown’s Boot Camp for almost a year. It is enjoyable to see people changing their lives right in front of me. Sometimes I will put 2 pictures side by side to show how much a camper has changed. I don’t change lives, but I portray the changes.

“A” Team Member

BBC has changed my life forever. I have been fortunate to be coached by the best of the best, I have made friendships with some of the most genuine people you will ever meet, all who started where I did and have always been supportive, encouraging and motivating. I am grateful to have found such a great program to be a part of, we only get one body and one mind and through this program I am able to take the best care of both.

I was asked a short while ago to be a part of the BBC staff. It was a privilege to be asked this because I am able to give back to such an amazing program that has given so much to me. Having first-hand experience with each one of these coaches has been a true honor and I am beyond fortunate to be part of such an awesome team.

Hi! My name is Carie and I joined Brown’s Boot Camp in January of 2014. It was after a snow skiing trip with my husband and two young boys that I realized I couldn’t put my health on the backburner any longer. My boys were begging me to keep up with them and I owed it to them to find a way. I began my journey at 213 lbs with 50% body fat and a 44” waist. One year later I was down to 134 lbs with 25% body fat and a 29” waist. But, more important to me than the numbers, I found my confidence, my independence, and my voice. My family and I love our active life together!

I was overwhelmed with shock and emotion when Randy asked me if I ever considered becoming a trainer. It had honestly never crossed my mind. Now I am completely honored and excited to be able to inspire, support, and educate others towards their health and fitness goals.

I have spent the better part of 20 years trying to find a way to lose weight and keep it off. I tried diet pills, personal trainers, and numerous fad diets. I was successful at getting the weight off only to pack it all back on and then some. There has never been a program that felt sustainable for my life, until now! My journey is nowhere near complete. I can’t wait to see where the next year at BBC will take me.

When you want something, and I mean REALLY want it, you find a way to get it.

Hi, my name is Bonnie and I have been with Brown’s Boot Camp since July of 2012, I originally joined to lose weight and be able to do things with my two teen age children without embarrassing them. As time went on, my goals changed from physical weight loss to wanting a more rounded life where I was balancing physical exercise, nutrition, and my home/work responsibilities. Everything seemed to blur together and Brown’s Boot Camp was the glue that held everything together.

In the first year, I attained my initial goal of losing 100 pounds of scale weight. I also rode in my first El Tour De Tucson (short course) and ran my first 5-K since high school. My second year had far more emotional growth where I learned to become a team player, trust my team and work with others. I also accomplished many mini challenges such as a half marathon, the entire El Tour De Tucson (111 miles) and a Spartan Run that I was blessed enough to run with my son and fellow Boot Camp friends. My third year brought about training to instruct, or as I believe beginning to pay it forward to others. I worked more at leading teams to do their first 5 or 10-K’s, encouraging others to meet their goals, led 30 day challenges and trained to become an instructor so I could help others as BBC helped me.

I have much more to accomplish in this life and I believe a huge part of it will be continued training while working as a Brown’s Boot Camp instructor. I also want to help you and many others reach their fitness and nutrition goals. We are a team of dedicated professionals who truly turn this into so much more than “jumping jacks in the park”. We will help you set goals you never thought you could attain, then show you how to attain them. We will work together as a team to accomplish so much more than any one of us can do by ourselves. I look forward to meeting you and helping you conquer your fears. All while helping you attain your goals and become the “you” that you have always wanted to become, and maybe even more!

Can’t wait to see you on the courts with our awesome teams!

Certified Personal Trainer

Hello! My name is Paul Thoenes, and I first became involved with Brown’s Boot Camp in January of 2010 before I spent some time abroad. After graduating high school in 2011, I returned to the program. I am the instructor of the east side camps in Rita Ranch at Springs Gymnastics and Purple Heart Park. The whole reason why I know about BBC is because of my mother’s involvement as a camper and a coach, and how her transformation has changed our family life in such a positive way. Knowing how much the program helped my family, I wanted to help others achieve the same success, so I jumped on the opportunity to become a coach when it was presented.

My other career is also based in athleticism. I have been working as head boys’ coach at Gymnastics World Northwest on Ina Road since September of 2011. I single-handedly started the first competitive boys program to ever exist at the gym. That program started in 2013 with six low level boys; the team now consists of sixteen gymnasts in three different levels.

I first became interested in gymnastics at a very young age after an awkward fall ended up in a handstand. In that moment I became obsessed with being on my hands and upside down basically everywhere. I started gymnastics competitively when I was 7 and ended my competitive career in my freshman year of high school as a level 10 gymnast, one level under the elite gymnasts that you see on TV and at the Olympics.

I’m a very high energy, positive coach. Having been coached by an Olympian, I am certainly a stickler for form and technique. The reason why is because safety is my priority when it comes to working out, and when you have good technique you get stronger, faster! I’m not shy, so if you have any questions, please ask me! Athleticism is my passion, and I would love to share any information that I can to help.

I cannot wait to meet you and help start the next chapter in your life. Your actions today determine your world tomorrow; don’t wish for it, earn it!

Hello, My name is Brooke Andersen. I’m newer to Brown’s Boot Camp, but I have already seen many of the benefits in the short time I’ve been involved. My husband, Rhys, was involved with BBC before I was and I could see the changes in his life, so I knew it was something I wanted to be involved in. Seeing the changes in both of us made it really easy to jump all the way in with Nutrition Coaching, Personal Training, and the BBC classes. I love it! Now the BBC family has helped me move forward as a BBC staff member to be able to help others become better in more ways than just fitness. We all are here to get fit, but when we pull together as a family and work together, the changes become more of a lifestyle than a fading glimpse of what could have been. I look forward to working with strangers, campers, and the families of campers in our upcoming online BBC workout website, I can’t wait!

Hello, my name is Justin. I am Randy’s oldest son and have been participating in Brown’s Boot Camp since I was a young overweight teenager. I didn’t know much about this fitness program coming in but on my first day I learned that it involved being punctual, working together with a team, and A LOT of hard work. The BBC campers are much different than the average gym-goer; they are much more supportive and team oriented. Due to this, I formed family-like bonds with my team and it made it easy to wake up at the crack of dawn to workout. This program changed my life and boosted my confidence. Years later, I am still plugged in and actively participating.

My job here at BBC is to coach the Kids Boot Camp. Since I was just a kid not too long ago and work well with kids, this was a perfect fit for me in the team. I figured out working with kids is very rewarding. Helping these young kids learn discipline and push their own limits are the two best parts of this job. This program has taught many kids to watch their nutrition and be active at a young age, which is priceless in this generation. I love being a part of this team!
